THIS JUST IN -ACT NOW
New member Linda Thorson alerts area artists to a fast-approaching exhibit opportunity. The second annual ARTigras will be held on Saturday, August 21st, 2010, from 10 am until 7 pm in Rochesters Mayo Park (behind the Mayo Civic Center). There will be one hundred 10x10 spaces for artists to sell their work. This event is for artists in SE Minnesota and surrounding areas of Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin only. If you have questions, please call Andrea Costopoulos at 507-280-6103. All participants must bring their own displays, tables, chairs, etc. Tents are optional, but recommended. There is an application form, and Linda Thorson, bjerke_lmbt@hotmail.com (underscore symbol after bjerke) can refer one. To reserve a booth space, please send a check for $25 and the completed application to the Rochester Arts Council, 30 Civic Center Drive SE, Suite 200, Rochester MN 55904. Artists must be juried in by sending examples of their artwork to andreaatart@charter.net or the Rochester Arts Council at the above address. Notification of acceptance will be by e-mail, if that option is available, or by U.S. mail. All applications must be post marked by August 15, 2010. The jury process will take no longer than a few days from the date the application was received. Spaces are on a first come, first serve basis. Since only activities related to the ARTigras Arts Festival will be permitted on August 21st, the layout of the 10x10 spaces will be closer to the sidewalks and Amphitheater to increase accessibility. There will be flags with numbers on them to make spaces easy to find. Set up will begin at 8 AM on 8/21. Free parking is available. Booth assignments will be sent out about 2 weeks before the art fair.
SEPTEMBER OPPORTUNITY
The La Crosse Community Theatre is looking for one or two artists (2D) to display their work in the theatre lobby, 118 5th Ave. N., during the run of their first show of the fall season, "West Side Story." The art should have some relevance to the theme of the show and would be a good opportunity for about 2000 theatergoers to see the artwork. A small writeup about each artist will be included in the playbill. For dates, details, and arrangements, contact Joan Nee artistjoan@gmail.com.
ATTENTION PHOTOGRAPHERS
The LaCrosse Area Camera Club (LACC) will be hosting a Regional Convention of the North Central Camera Club Council (N4C) at the Radisson Hotel from September 16 through 19. The event will include photo tours, photography workshops, and speakers, as well as great food and a Mississippi Cruise with music. There will also be a large exhibition of print photography on display. Camera club membership is not required. If you would like more information or a registration form please visit the Convention web site at http://n4clacrosse2010.com, or contact a LACC member.
BLING?
Bling is a trendy term for showy adornment. It is also the name of a two-day jewelry-only sale taking place during the peak of the Pump House Regional Arts Center holiday season, 5-10 pm, Wednesday and Thursday, December 15 and 16, 2010. Jewelry makers interested in this chance to show to holiday-goers and shoppers will have an application deadline of October 1, and should contact Becky Herlitzke, becky@thepumphouse.org, or 608-785-1434. The Pump House is located at 110 King St. La Crosse.

NEWS FROM GALLERY LA CROSSE
Gallery manager Ann Gronbeck Peterson announces, "The July Artists' Surplus Supplies Swap Sale continues through the end of July, downstairs in the Rustic Cellar. Because of the great amount of things in the last swap, more space has been added. Our Vendors tend to add things over the three weeks of the Swap Sale, so the selection changes almost daily. Included is a nice variety of equipment, supplies, & display racks. Our next Swap Sale will be held October 6-23. The August "Motorcycle Arts & Crafts Benefit Show & Sale" is coming up fast. Please see the whole set of details on our website www.GalleryLaCrosse.com. The show will benefit the community health clinic and garden on the Pine Ridge Reservation at Porcupine, SD."
ART FAIR ON THE GREEN
The 52nd annual AAUW Art Fair on the Green was held July 24 and 25, and local artists, including LCSAC members, were well represented. While all went well for the actual show, Mother Nature played a dirty trick on some exhibitors before opening. Potter Joyce Diveley was one of four artists whose canopies were damaged or destroyed when a brief but violent storm came through the area at 3:25 am Saturday. Fortunately, Joyce's pottery inventory was safe in her car. She invites all to see her work at www.joycepottery.etsy.com. She was much better off than the exhibitors at the Maple Grove, Minnesota, Art Fair two weeks earlier, when a daytime storm did thousands of dollars damage to dozens of artists' work.
