Pump House Deadline to Exhibit is Drawing Near!

Artists who wish to have an exhibit at the Pump House in 2011 should refer to www.thepumphouse.org for details.   January 31, 2010 is the last day to submit ideas and photos of artwork for the 2011 exhibit season. The Pump House staff is challenging regional artists to create something new and exciting for our community to enjoy. Thus, guidelines require that artwork not be previously shown within 50 miles of La Crosse.    Because there are three galleries at the Pump House, it is not necessary to create enough artwork to fill the Kader Gallery.  There are two smaller galleries which would show off fewer pieces, furthermore, artists may join to create a group exhibit.  A gallery preference should accompany the CD containing photos of the art for submission. All Pump House-sponsored exhibits are juried.  The jury fee is $30.00 for Pump House nonmembers and free for current members. There is no cost to the artist to have an exhibit at the Pump House beyond the membership or jury fee. The Pump House will work with the artist to promote the exhibits and provide a wine and cheese reception.

A special upcoming venture will be a Regional Juried Black and White Exhibit, planned for late 2010.  The call for artists will go out in February.

Questions about the Pump House galleries should be directed  to Becky Herlitzke at beckyherlitzke@gmail.com or 608-788-4182.

ARTIST LOFT PROJECT COMES INTO FOCUS

Grand River Station is a mixed-income, mixed-use development, which includes, all under one roof, La Crosse's regional transit center, retail space, rental apartments, and condominiums, is now under construction on South Third Street at Jay Street.  The 72 apartments will target artists and entrepreneurs by combining living with work spaces.  Fifty-nine of the 72 apartments are cost-adjusted for residents earning less than median income.  Thirteen apartments are available for all incomes.  Market rate condominium units, located on the top of the residential floors, will share a business center, artist workspaces, gallery, theatre, fitness room, green roof, and patio area.

On the ground level will be the 10,000 square foot transit center serving as the hub for public transportation in downtown La Crosse. Retail business will also occupy this level.

Artists interested in this unique opportunity to combine living and creative activity in the heart of the downtown should contact Denise Loveland at Horizon Management, 784-2935 or at dloveland@horizon-management.net. Horizon is the local associate of developer Gorman and company on the residential leasing.
