LCSAC Fall Workshop: Oct. 18-22, 2010: See the Forms Download Page for Workshop Application!!!

    * It is that time of year already!   It is time for me to publish information about our fall workshop, as La Crosse Society of Arts and Craft's members receive the information before the workshop is advertised to the public.  Because there is a limit to the amount of people that can attend, this early publishing gives each of you time to make a decision if you want to attend.  The dates of the workshop October 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd, 2010.

The workshop will be held at a different (and better) location, which is the Omni Center.  The cost will be approximately the same as it has been each year and I am quite sure it will not cost more.  I will publish the cost soon.

The workshop presenter is Myrna Wacknov.  The following is the information she has provided.

Sincerely,

Micki Kastel Carlson

VARIATIONS :  UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES WITH ONE IMAGE

Workshop Description

This workshop is for those people who wish to move away from strict interpretation of a photograph and explore the potential for more unique and creative alternatives.

Everyone will be working with the same image, provided by the instructor, to maximize the number of variations produced in the time frame of the workshop.  We will be working with a portrait image, but the principles learned in the workshop will work with any subject matter.   Participants can work with any or all water media.

Each day will explore a different Element of Design and how it could apply to the image at hand.

This is an unusual workshop in that each participant and their paintings will expand the knowledge of the entire group.   At the end of the workshop, each person will have produced 4 or 5 paintings, multiplied by the number of participants,  and have that many different variations of one image!

Be prepared for fun, creative excitement in a  fast paced, intense and highly structured environment.

Myrna has a wonderful web site describing the workshop:

Sparta, Wisconsin,

Artists from Monroe County and the surrounding area who would like to learn about a Sparta-based art and fine crafts center are encouraged to attend a meeting at 5 p.m. on Monday, August 16 at the Sparta Chamber Depot.

The vision is to establish a gallery space owned and controlled by artists so that they have a storefront, control over how art is presented, and creative support. To enable this, a group is working to establish an art & fine craft co-op gallery in downtown Sparta. Space permitting, the group may also offer classes for the community and studio space for artists.

“This next meeting is quite important,” says Holly Grady, Director of the Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce.  “We’ve got workable spaces identified and a small group committed to making the gallery happen but, in order for the art center to become reality, we need others to commit to the cooperative dream.” The co-op is currently looking for artists interested in become founding members.

The fledgling Sparta Art and Fine Craft Co-op is one of many initiatives inspired by Create It!, an effort launched this spring by Monroe County Economic Development & Tourism Committee to spotlight local artists, musicians and other creative entrepreneurs. The initiative is a counterpart to the iBuyMoCo Campaign, which encourages county residents to support Monroe County businesses.

Interested artists who cannot attend the Sparta co-op meeting or would like further information on becoming involved can contact the volunteer coordinators: Deb Severson [deb@whispirit.com 608-269-6218] or Debbie Kemper [debjkemper@yahoo.com  608-366-1959 or 608-633-1464].
